REVERSE OSMOSIS MEMBRANES

Reverse Osmosis Membrane Treatments

What is Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination technology was originally developed in the late 1950s and has now become the leading desalination technology globally. There are many different processes used in RO desalination, and different factors come into play when choosing the right solution for each problem; source water quality, desired quantity and quality of produced water, primary treatment, energy requirements and concentrate disposal.

Seawater Desalination by Reverse Osmosis

RO removes all mineral ions and other dissolved solids, bacteria and viruses from water, making it a suitable process for water desalination for both drinking and industrial purposes. Standard osmosis involves the movement of a solvent (such as water) from an area of naturally low solute concentration through a membrane to an area of high solute concentration. The movement of pure solvent reduces the free energy of the system by equalizing the solute concentrations across the membrane and creates osmotic pressure. Applying external pressure to reverse the natural flow of a solvent is called reverse osmosis. To create clean water using this process, seawater or salt water is pressurized against one surface of the membrane, causing the desalted water to move across the membrane, releasing clean water from the low-pressure side.

It leads the RO market

For desalination to be a sustainable, affordable and long-term solution to the planet's water needs, it needs to be carbon neutral or better. Agulink is constantly improving the design and carbon footprint of its desalination plants. Safety and a healthy work environment are top priorities for Aqulink, and to achieve this, we work closely with our customers to ensure success and growth.

Flexibility – Aqualink offers small to large scale as well as modular desalination solutions.

Potential leadership - Leading the industry in maximizing productivity by building some of the largest SWRO plants in the world.

Proven project management experience – nearly 50 years of desalination success has proven Aqulink's ability to deliver complex projects on time, within budget and to meet our client's standards and expectations.

With the continuous development of the best technologies and partners, Aqulink has achieved a continuous increase in the desalination capacity of large-scale plants, while drastically reducing desalinated water costs under long-term BOT contracts.

Lowest Cost of Ownership

Aqualink's plants provide the industry's lowest water costs over the life of the plant:

Custom designed pretreatment systems – ensure maximum RO system efficiency and life.

Optimized pressure center design – utilizes highly efficient high-pressure pumps and process design to increase operational flexibility and plant availability, reduce energy consumption and reduce costs.

The most advanced membrane options – maximizing efficiency while minimizing investment.

Saving time and money with a Prefab Modular Design approach for Desalination Plants

Aqualink has developed a cost-effective and sustainable solution for the construction of desalination plants, which dramatically reduces installation time by up to 70% and offers significant savings in CAPEX and OPEX. Unique, highly pre-engineered and pre-assembled modular design minimizes costly installation time.

Modular design – large modules of 12 skids can produce up to 32,000 m3 of product water per day. Its modular design allows the system to be plug-and-play. The number of slides can be adjusted according to the customer's requirements. Moreover, any plant can be easily expanded to meet changing needs.

Cost-Effective - Each slide is precisely sized to fit a 40-foot container. This enables quick and cost-effective transport of the desalination plant, while also reducing the time it takes to set up the train at the designated location.

Energy Efficient - A slide-in energy recovery system can be added as part of the overall design. This makes the system highly energy efficient.

Distressed Financing

Aqualink has a proven track record of delivering tailor-made financing packages that help clients turn their ambitious dreams into reality – all within accelerated deadlines and tight budgets.

With its Sorek, Hadera and Ashkelon plants in Israel, Aqualink has optimized BOT financing models that ensure the lowest cost of desalinated water. The Carlsbad Desalination project, implemented with key partners in California, is a blueprint for financing large-scale desalination projects in North America.

Advanced Technology

has a long experience with technological breakthroughs. These are some of the latest:

Center of Pressure Design – enables reduced energy consumption, increased system availability and better reliability due to the efficiency of large high-pressure pumps and energy recovery devices.

Boron Treatment System – a patented process that removes boron ions to concentrations below 0.3 ppm, thus regulating water quality for agricultural needs and meeting customer requirements.

Aqualink MPD modular design - unique, highly pre-engineered and pre-assembled modular design minimizes installation time in very expensive locations. Manufacturing and assembly takes place in our workshops, including most high-pressure welding and fittings, in a controlled environment, thus increasing system quality and reliability.
